Watch valuations - Is your Rolex watch insured at a price you could realistically replace it?
Brands like Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and others produce models which are highly sought after and command high re-sale prices on the second hand market due to extensive waiting lists. This makes it near impossible to replace your watch at the listed retail price in the event of a loss.
Our watch valuations take these market factors into consideration, giving you peace of mind that you are fully insured if the worst should happen.

When did you last have your jewellery and watches valued for insurance purposes?
There are several factors like the gold and diamonds prices and exchange rates which will affect the value of your items. For this reason, many insurers request up-to-date valuations every 3-5 years, and some even more frequently.
If you require a valuation for insurance, or other purposes like probate, please contact us for more information on the valuations service we provide in Glasgow, Paisley and Ayr.
Sometimes inclusions can give us an indication of the origin of a gemstone. In these cases, the emerald on the left and the sapphire on the right had never been valued by a gemmologist and therefore were not correctly identified which resulted in the owner being under-insured.
The emerald has jagged three-phase inclusions often associated with Colombian emeralds. The sapphire has undissolved rutile silk which is indicative of no heat and the internal features provided clues that it may be from Sri Lanka (Ceylon). In both cases, we sent the gemstones to a lab for confirmation of my findings.
The lab report confirming the origins of these gemstones increased their insurance values by 30-40%.
It pays to seek advice from a fully qualified valuer and gemmologist. Based in Glasgow.

Using the latest equipment, we offer synthetic diamond detection as part of our service. Synthetic diamonds have a significantly lower value than their natural counterparts, meaning its essential as valuers that we can identify these stones to provide an accurate valuation.
It's been wonderful to be back out seeing clients again and I have just a few appointments available until the end of the month. Please get in touch if you would like to book or find out more about jewellery valuations in Glasgow, Paisley and Ayr.
In my spare time I've been keeping up my favourite past time which is photographing gemstones and their inclusions under the microscope. Here is one of my recent favourites. I hope you enjoy!
This week my client commented on the large increase in her gold jewellery valuation from 5 years ago when she had last it valued. She had been unaware of the rise in gold prices and due to this, was under-insured. This has also been the case for palladium in recent months with prices on the increase still.
If you would like to talk to me about your jewellery and valuation requirements please get in touch.
I found this bird shaped crystal inclusion was found in a Sri Lankan sapphire which has undergone no treatment. Isn't he lovely!
Wishing all my clients a happy new year. Here's to a brighter and better year in 2021.
